Yatch Race, Antigua Sailing Week
by TarikB - 3rd Place

Went out in my friend's boat near one of the turn markers. Was too rough to get down where the spinakers were out but I still like this shot.

Beautiful picture! I can almost feel the ocean spray when I look at it. You were brave to take your camera on a sailboat with all that salt air ;-). Lisafx

Wonderful image. RE: the PS work...I don't care how you arrived at your final destination, you arrived in style! :-) The composition is really effective here. We have the closer large sailboat, with the people on the side of the boat, to give us a feel for it's true massive size. Then we have the other two boats in the background that make the large sailboat appear even more pronounced. Your "water line" is perfectly placed in a pleasing "thirds" area of the image and, the whole image looks like a great masters water paiting I remember seeing once. Nice work. Mark J

Hi Tarik, I'm with Shay, it doesn't matter how you achieved your image. The great photographers all did their own darkroom work. It's not like they just dropped off their film at the local printers. They created their images.

This is just a terrific photo. It's very dramatic, with an almost cartoonish water color (in a mystical way, not a funny way). The composition and lines are super. Really enjoyed this one.

No no, the "image" is what counts, not necessarily how it was made. Great job. - Shay

It was not actually that stormy a day, but quite hazy. I really liked how the compostion of the shot came out and was very inpressed with the fact they were in focus, I was on quite a small boat and it was pitching quite a bit. The original however had a lack of contrast between sky and sea that I was looking for so I was fooling around in photoshop and hit on the efccet by desaturating the blues. This left the sea the georgeous color and but gave the sky the 'stormy' look. Hope you still like the image, did not feel right leaving you thinking it was just out the box. I'll stick the original in my gallery if anyone wants to see it. TarikB
