I believe this is a monitor climbing an Australian Stringy Bark.
A Perentie(Varanus giganteus)
Eats other lizards,rabbits,eggs and tackles venomous snakes with gusto.

Nice photo...however the lizard is called a Lace Monitor (Varanus varius)....a monitor or goanna(as we call them here in australia) which is found in the forests along the east coast.It spends much of its time in the trees whereas the perentie is mainly a ground dwelling monitor from the more arid interior of australia

Superb! Fascinating subject, beautifully captured with great colors. Photo looks as if it was taken with the sun low in the sky, but however it was achieved the light is toned just superbly.
