Cross Section of Technology
by Ann Chaikin

Bellingham

This is a cross section of a magnet from a nuclear Accellerator at the University of California at Berkeley. It is embedded in plastic for display purposes. My father was Director of the Lawrence Radiation Lab at Berkeley from 1958 until his retirement in the 1970s. He collected quite an array of odd memorabilia of nuclear technology. When we cleaned out his office after his retirement, the University sent along a representative to check things for radioactivity. A coupld of items had to be whisked away! This one was fine though.

Ann, the combination between the object floating in lucite and the light you chose gives this a neat futuristic/surreal impact.

What a fascinating object and story Ann. I love the colors and the shapes in the image. At first I did not care for the plastic container it's in but, after thinking it through, it actually adds something to the image for me. Mark J

Interesting collection. I also like this image best for it's mysterious glow and composition. Hewy

I like this one the most, Ann. It has a really good glow, good to know it is not the radiation which causes it. Willem
