I don't know whether the game is known elsewhere.
In Holland this old boardgame is called "ganzenbord".

It is lit by a very soft light far behind the camera to get just a bit of color,
and by a mini maglite torch shining against a sheet of paper at the far end.
The shallow depth of field is on purpose, to add to the feeling of uncertainty.
It took almost 40 images with different lighting setups and DOF to end up with this result.
