3rd Place - The Loveless Cafe & Motel
by Mike Ezell

"Hot Biscuits and Country Ham!" They just don't make signs like this anymore, nor do you really see small roadside cafe-motels like this. Unfortunately these types of places have become rare, but fortunately this one has survived; it is a highly recommended cafe that is a favorite Saturday morning eatery in the Nasville area.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Spent about 3 hours doing the processing on this photo. I went through many (many) different versions with respect to what I was adjusting first-- contrast, brightness, levels, and gradient adjustments. There was a lot of variation in the end result depending on which was done first. I finally settled on this one, which involved first adjusting the levels, then the contrast, then the brightness, and then finally coverted to B&W via gradient adjustments. Other combinations just didn't have the feel that this posted version did. To be honest, this is the best B&W conversion I have ever done. Never before have I generated the B&W film "feel" like this before (perhaps I was due some statistical chance payback hehe). And yes, this is the place that was featured on the Food Network not too long ago. It really is a wonderful cafe, and it does take you back to another era.

What can I say? I agree with all the comments below. I like the angle at which you shot this, the way the shadows fall, the B&W processing . . . a really enjoyable shot!

A Great shot. It sure looks like it was taken years ago with a film camera, as Yanny said. You did a tremendous job on the processing of it. Bill B

Beautiful B&W, really looks like film IMO. Any technique used? Yanny
