Thanks Katherine and Bill for your kind comments and Justin for analyzing this image. You are right about the "breaking of the rule" but I guess the viewers mostly don't notice it because the fence keeps their eyes busy.

Thanks John for your kind comment. You are right they are difficult to capture. The black was an advantage as it stayed black when converted to sepia.

The centering of the bird breaking the typical rule of thirds works well here because of how the fence lines in, then out of the frame on the right, and the focus blur background which separates the shot into two perceived halves. The sepia tones work well for the starkness of the scene.

"I'm Coming"
First class shot of a neglected bird. Neglected mainly because they are so difficult to photograph.
You nailed this one, even catching the high light in the eye.
The lack of colour in the rest of the shot works well.
I guess I'll have to wait to see who you are.
