There's also a cutaway version showing the Merlin's internals. Twelve big cylinders, you bet; and the two stage blower on the back make it a terrific high-altitude performer. The early Allison-powered Mustangs were a little anaemic at altitude; installing the Merlin turned the Mustang into a superb long-range fighter escort.
