Today was a day you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. I had planned to make sun tea. The days are shorter now so I knew I had to start before I even had breakfast. I'm not a morning person so I did not relish the thought of doing anything before breakfast. I only have one sun tea jug and it still was half full from the last time I made sun tea. So I had to find another jug to put the tea in. Luckily I had one I used for water when I play tennis and it was empty. I managed to pour the tea into the water jug without spilling any and put the jug in the frig. First step done.

Now came the really hard part, getting the lid off the sun tea jug. For some reason known only to The Fates sun tea jug lids will not come off and I know of no way to get the tea bags in the jug without taking the lid off. So now you begin to appreciate my predicament. You can use those little rubber jar lid removal helpers but they don't work. The lid also has this sharp little edge so if your hand slips, there you are with a lid cut. And you know by then I was sweating profusely so the salt got in the cut and that really hurt. I had to run water over my hand for at least two minutes for the stinging to subside. By then I was so distraught I had to go sit down for ten minutes to compose myself.

While sitting I got the idea that maybe running water over the lid would help loosen it. So I spent another five minutes running cold water over the lid with no improvement. The lid was still tenaciously clinging to the jug. I was getting very upset by then and decided if that lid didn't want to come off let's see how he liked being scalded. So I went out the garage and turned the temperature on the water heater up as far as it would go. Then went back to the kitchen and turned the hot water on full blast and put that smart-alecky little sun tea jug lid under it. Well that little lid knew then and there it had met its match and practically pleaded for me to take it off.

After that things progressed smoothly. I got six Lipton tea bags out of their little containers suffering only one paper cut. I managed to fill the jug with water, put the tea bags in the water with their tags outside, and screw the lid back on. Screwing the lid on was a little traumatic. I had a couple flashbacks to the lid cut but I had a paper bag handy and a couple minutes of breathing into it settled me down. I placed the jug in the optimum spot in the back yard based on the latitude, time of year, and the weather forecast. The tea should be ready by 5:14pm local time today. I will be checking the forecast periodically just in case the jug might need to be repositioned. My prognosis is good and I expect to make a full recovery from my ordeal by the time the tea is ready.

Personally I'd give up on sun tea and start drinking Talisker Single Malt Scotch. The smokey peaty tastes great during October whether in Scotland or California. and the cork is really easy to remove! LOL!
