I took this shot on the first day of the air show from my back yard. I live about four miles as the crow flies from Mather Field. This maneuver is hard to describe but here goes. All six jets start in the delta formation. With smoke off they do three quarters of a loop ending up coming straight down directly over the center of the field, then smoke on, roll until they all face six equal distant points of the compass, then pull up and head away from each other, and do half of a Cuban Eight. Now they are all headed for the center of the field where they all converge and pass each other. Very exciting when all six scream past each other low over the field. This shot is just as they are starting to pull up out the dive.

A Cuban Eight is a maneuver where the aircraft starts at a low altitude, parallel to the ground, flies a short way, does 5/8 of a loop, a 180 roll, heads back to the center point at a 45 degree down angle, pulls out level to the ground, and does the same thing going in the other direction. The result looks like an infinity symbol where the center cross over has been pushed down.
