Entering Ypres through the Menin Gate

The Menin Gate memorial was built by the British government to contain the names of Commonwealth soldiers that died without graves in the Ypres Salient. Despite its size it would not hold all of the names; 54,896 are listed in the Menin Gate, the remaining 33,783 are on the wall at Tyne Cot Cemetery .
