Something really unique happened to me at Fort Supply Lake, Oklahoma on December 30, 2016. There were over 125+ large gulls (mostly Herring) catching and eating fish on the north side of the lake. The weather that day consisted of 40+ mph winds from the south which must have set up the perfect conditions to bring the gulls on shore. Waves were rolling in just like they do on the ocean. There was also an inflow of 38 cfs into the lake bringing in a fresh supply of small bait fish. I pulled my vehicle next to the feeding frenzy adjacent to the beach and parked for two hours. At close range I was able to identify and photograph 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (2 adults, 1 first cycle and 1 second cycle), 3 Thayer's Gulls (1 adult and 2 first cycles) and 1 first cycle Glaucous-winged x Herring Gull hybrid. Here is a gallery of photos taken during this time.
