A stylised St Ana’s Church, Magozd; my favorite church anywhere, home or away. Its setting
is idyllic and this defiant little church, which has survived colossal battles (the Isonzo
Front ran right through here) and earthquakes which badly damaged nearby villages, has a
dreamlike quality to it the like of which I have never found elsewhere.

If you've arrived at this via my Slovenia gallery, you may be interested to see more of this textured work here... http://www.pbase.com/steve_sharp/experiment_in_textures

Very well conceived and executed image, Steve. I think the distortion and the treatment gives it the dream like qualities your looking for; however, one more minute in the oven and it would of been "over cooked" ;-) It is perfect just as it is! Great work!

I find it a very interesting approach. I wouldn't say at all is "overcooked". You've the artist license ;-)

I like the distortion, and also the upward angle ..... both make the church seem proud and invincible. I also like the "grunge" treatment, as it gives the effect of time, and perhaps war-torn country. Excellent work!

It's a symbol of resilience, defiance and hope and with your image you bring this message across. Beautifully done!!

Great shot Steve - to me it screams "church as social monolith". ~V~

Didn't see the first version Steve but I love this. You have portrayed the resilience of the church against it's harsh environment well. Great post processing. Can see why it's your favorite church too.

IMHO the text is totally related to the image itself. One can feel its trong and charming construction surrounded by the historic and dramatic mood all around.
This is a fabulous image!! Huge v

I'm too late to comment on your original but what you have here protrays the message well. Love the composition and the single tree, textures as per normal spot on. +V

Love the image and the PP but my first impression was the warping is a little to much. Still very nice and gets my vote.
settler16-Feb-2009 20:09
Keep the distortion!...BV!!!
Marcia Rules16-Feb-2009 19:56
very cool! don't mind this warping at all; if you have another version, post it as well! it would be a completely different shot! V

I believe that you are a spot-on with this beautiful creation, Steve.
Not sure what story people will develop in their own minds without the further explanation, but you have superbly achieved what was explained. This is also a wonderful variation of "usual" work flow and as such I find it rewarding and priceless.
Not that my voice has much of the weight, but I believe that positive opinions will follow shortly and in big waves!
P.S. I really like how you manage to transfer the mood and the idea in the final creation, from the initial idea and little spark of what is wanted to the final and perfectly rounded whole.
Congratulations
