Great Yarmouth

This photo is dedicated to Marisa http://www.pbase.com/mardoli), and, I like to
think, done in a style similar to her own unique one. I was in 'Great' Yarmouth
this afternoon to visit a Norwegian Christmas Market (disappointing), but worse
than that was to witness the utter forlorn-ness of a town that used to be my home
town. I won't go into details, but its so far down the pan that it is disappearing
out of sight round the U-bend. This is the Wellington Pier (recently rebranded 'WP'
for the benefit of those who found four syllables a bit of a mouthful). It was one
of the few highlights of the trip (sorry for my Yarmouth-induced bad mood!)

Great colour contrast with the grey and pinks, really effective and evocative. Superb post work as usual, with your accomplished eye for holding the light and eeking out every last detail; love the radiating effect of the clouds above the pier towers. A lovely crisp clean photo, and a suitably sobering commentary on the ups and downs (mainly downs...) of town life in 21st century UK. V+

Very sleek image.
Things that have disappeared there have popped up somewhere else I am sure. One can look at the past and unfortunately realize in a melancholic way that what leaves with time. On the other end, the neighborhood where I work is also one of these places that used to be full of industry and that is decaying these days. But I am sure that life in these booming years was not so easy for the workers...

This shot makes Great Yarmouth interesting enough to visit! I've never been...is it really that bad?

I too know Yarmouth very well after 25 years and you are absolutely right, its dying a death, so sad as it goes back to Victorian times in its hayday, but you do it real justice, this pik is gorgeous!

Well, Steve, what could I write without running the risk to sound uselessly sycophantic?
Of course I’m touched by your kind thought, but I think that here the most important thing is commenting your impressive picture and to express why I like it.
The composition makes me perceive the pier in a dimension a bit out of reality. I see it as a kind of “cathedral in the desert” or a starship landed by mistake on a beach.
The wide angle give a great power to the image and the sky is nearly the mirror reflection of the sand, which is confused with the sea, we don’t see where one finishes and the other one starts, but our eyes are attracted and fascinated by the pink/violet light of the building, which is really the centre of the attention.
Actually here I’d say the subject of the picture is the light.
It’s an evocative images mixed up with melancholy and amazement.
Thank you!

Well taken and processed, the contrasts are stunning, without that pale yellow backdrop it wouldn't work half as well. Sounds like you had a real bad day but at least something wonderful came from it! +V

Sorry to hear about Great Yarmouth.
Amazing image of 'Wellington Pier', I hate when they shorten things. A bit
like team 'GB' at the Olympics, now that really got on my nerves!!! ...
