Dear visitor, does anybody know what the "official" name of the white "super bug" is???
He/she arrived in my yard, very shocking - never seen such a large creature before
and not again (so far). Thanks!!!

Hi Sabine! You asked what the "white superbug" is...I thought someone might have recognized it by now...it's an albino Praying Mantis. They are fun bugs to watch. They eat littler bugs and spiders. They usually stake out a territory and guard it carefully. You can pick one up and notice how slowly it moves. Their usual color is springtime green; they like to pretend they are really a leaf or a branch.
Over a year ago in the autumn, we had many crickets climbing on the wall in our garage. We had spiders there, too. My son found a green praying mantis on a shrub and brought it into the garage. We watched as the praying mantis made a very slow, elegant climb up the garage wall where the crickets were. He just watched them a long time, turning his triangle-shaped head to watch them, then boom! he caught one that became his meal. I think he either ate the rest of them or scared them away; this year we didn't have crickets in the garage, even though the praying mantis was long gone.
