I consider a flex coupling to be essential. It performs an important job: isolate the turbo and manifold from the stresses of twisting that the exhaust system goes through when the engine moves on acceleration; and when the exhaust system moves around when going over bumps.

The downpipe is secured at the turbo, and at the L bracket. The flex coupling has been located behind the transmission crossmember to minimize ground clearance loss; and to provide the pivot point for the bending and movement of the exhaust system.

Behind the flex coupling is the Moroso Spiral Flow Racing muffler. It's job is to reduce the noise level of the exhaust. I was impressed with just how well it works. From a flow standpoint, it is like it is invisible. From a noise reduction standpoint, it is nearly amazing.
