Cutting deeply into the Moenkopi Plateau of north-central Arizona, Coal Mine Canyon is located on the Hopi Nation. This canyon is filled with jagged, saw-toothed formations throughout the canyons. Reminiscent of the pinnacles of Bryce Canyon, these colorful horizontally-banded hoodoos have been carved into the soft Mesa Verde and Mancos shales along the eastern edge of the plateau. I had the pleasure of going to visit this area with my cousin who was visiting from the midwest. We both were amazed by the colors of the landscape in this short 4 mile canyon. This gallery highlights some of the pictures from our trip.
Astounding--in a class with Antelope Canyon and Coyote Butte. Do you have any idea how the Hopi think of the place? Its almost hallucinatory beauty would seem to be well suited to spiritual quests.
Your Canon does a superb job of rendering the colors and detail, from the ground at the front to the cliffs in back. One of the sharpest galleries I've seen in that regard.
