In early september, a friend and I took a quick two day road trip to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park in Utah. Both parks are absolutely amazing in their natural beauty. I had been to Zion a few times, but this was my first time to Bryce Canyon.
Bryce Canyon is famous for its unique geology, consisting of a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved along the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The canyon is known for its bizarre shaped spires called "hoodoos" which consist of spires of colorful limestone rock that has eroded into a wonderous landscape of mazes. With a rim elevation of 8000-9000 feet, you get a spectacular view down into the naturally carved beauty.
Zion National Park is one of my favorite national parks in the country. This park is comprised of a very long valley cut through cliffs of reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the north fork of the Virgin River. The large scale of the canyon is awe inspiring, and the geology is amazing.
The weather was mostly cloudy at Bryce Canyon with quite a bit of rain at times, which didn't make for a great day of photography there. The sun did come out at Zion which made for much better photography of the landscape. I hope that you enjoy this gallery.
