The bear was already zooming toward the hiking trail when we finally spotted him ...

Running away from a bear is usually a bad idea.
It can trigger it's instinct to chase.

We didn't move ... not knowing what his behavior would be.
It worked: He stopped for a second.

... but finally decided to continue walking to the right.

I was never approached so close by a bear.
That's amazing!
