Micro climate

Humber Bay Park

There is a large bakery across the street that discharges clean warm water into the creek. Mallards and American Black Ducks stay there all winter. It also attracts some birds that would otherwise be long gone, like the four juvenile Black Crowned Night Herons in this shot. I worry for them because here in Canada it gets really cold later this month and in February, sufficient to freeze the creek regardless of the warm inflow.

Interesting. I ran across a similar situation in Massachusetts when I was there in December. I worry about the birds, too.
