All we had to do was sit quietly on the hillside and the ptarmigan would walk all around us (literally), as they went about their daily activities, apparently oblivious to us (but the male "went ballistic" at a ground squirrel that dared stick it's head out of it's burrow while the mamma and chicks were feeding nearby)!
