The Knick River, seen here, originates from the Knick Glacier a few miles upstream. When the wind blows (as it often does in the Mat-Su valley) the glacial dust from the dry portions of the river bed gets blown for miles. The town of Palmer is the first in it's path, but neighboring Wasilla gets some, too.
