Helen Mead, our "adopted" grandmother, was visiting from southern California and was excited about seeing a moose in Alaska. After several days searching locally without success, we took her on an evening trip through Elmendorf AFB -- the back side of which is an excellent place to find wildlife in the evening. The sun was just going down when we encountered this young bull. Fortunately it walked out of the dark woods and began browsing in the grassy meadow. Light was fading fast, but with ISO 800 and an image-stabilized lens I was able to capture this somewhat soft photo in the evening light.
