Newly Emerged Cicada Couldn't Fly

Lincoln, Nebraska

This guy was on my driveway and couldn't or at least didn't want to fly away. When I was done I nudged him up onto my fingers and put on him on the side of our oak tree. Hopefully a bluejay or cicada-killer-wasp didn't spot him before he crawled up into the branches.

graet shot, very fine detail. The three red dots will be simple eyes that compliment the larger compound eyes. It is believed the simple eyes merely register light and dark and give an insect an indication of where the sky and ground are ie its orientation. The compound eyes register more detail.
