It seems to me that the juxtaposition of extremes
is what makes this picture. They all seem
caught up in their own world(s).
Each is so different, yet they are forced to
bring their disparate selves together if only for a moment.
Here we have the present, i.e., the waiting , the curb, the background, and here we have the future... the expectation of perhaps a bus or streetcar.
Then there is the desolate , lonely sense one aquires by way of
the very unattractive, rather shabby looking bistro or whatever it is in the
background. I don't envy any one of them!
