So, I really like Vientiane. Since my 2002 visit, it's changed little. They've paved all the lanes of the road from the presidential palace past the Patuxai up to the big Wat. And the Chinese are renovating the park around the Patuxai. They've also finished up the new Temple by the big Wat. Oh, and there's a GREAT sushi restaurant. Best california roll, I swear to God, I've EVER had.

The story is, the Lao were given cement to build a runway. They built the Patuxai instead.
