On this trip, the best places were Sravanabelgola and Tiruvannamalai. Sravanabelgola is famous because of the enormous carving of Bahubali at the top of a big stone hill. It is very impressive. Carved from one stone about 1000 years ago, it is beautifully done. It has great detail and after you climb the steps to get there, barefoot, it does have a nice feeling. I was in town about three days and went up there every day at least once (it's free. the Jains have lots of money) and just being up there was a great feeling. The town has a few other very nice temples too and it's just a very nice place to hang out. I went walking in the countryside, which was very beautiful. In conclusion: if you're in south central, try and get here. And don't just come on the bus, walk up the steps, get back on the bus and leave. It's worth staying. The hotel and the foot of the mountain is very nice and has good rates.
