Unlike, it seems, most everyone else, I LOVED singapore. It's a wonderful mix of cultures, including western, which is I guess why backpackers hate it so. My favorite excursion was riding around the reservoir on a less than reliable rental mountain bike. It took about seven hours and offered me the opportunity to ride into the beautiful residential neighborhoods on the north side of the island. Don't be put off by backpacker chic: go to Singapore.
