Ugh. Tourism in Ethiopia. This places sells itself as a sort of magical lakeside wonderland of mysterious old monasteries. It's an okay little town, but I would definitely skip it if I was planning a trip to Ethiopia. Getting out to the monasteries is a bit of a racket. You only see three, and the third is closed and has been for years, but you aren't clued into this until you pay your four dollars to see it. The best time I had was the second day, spent not on the completely ordinary Lake Tana, but spent on a rented bicycle riding around the area. Skip this place.
