Badami

A few hours north of Hampi is Badami, a beautiful Chalukyan city. It is an amazing place and I thought it was far more interesting than Hampi, which is much more visited. The temples are better preserved and the scenery is more striking. It's like Hampi in being vaguely lunar looking, but the sites are more dramatic. It also has rock cut temples that I found more impressive than those at Ellora. I had a great time walking around. Hassle free, beautiful. And the winding alleys of Badami village are also really spectacular. There are some temples around to be seen as well. I hired a rickshaw and went to a couple. Very nice. The first bunch of photos are of Badami village. The second bit the old palaces and temples.
