A highly unusual and in many cases secretive, group of obligate parasites attacking a wide variety of insects. The better-known groups are specific to hymenopteran hosts, but several families are specialists of true bugs and other insect orders. Their common name derives from the males, which have club-like forewings and twisted, fan-like hindwings. They seek out the females, which are highly reduced - eyeless, legless, and wingless. Strepsipterans are thought to be related to the beetles.
