Basswood (Tilia americana), family Malvaceae

Port Severn, Simcoe Co., Ontario

These sturdy trees have broad, distinctly asymmetrical leaves. Tilia species are known in forestry as Basswood, in horticulture as Linden Tree, and in Europe as Lime Tree. The fragrant flowers are prized by beekeepers for their nectar. This individual is a sapling.
