Hi, I live in Lithuania, me and my sister was taking some firewood inside the house and she spotted what she thought was a dead hornet, I knew the moment I saw the hornet that she wasnt dead and that she is hibernating, I was fascenated bi her, so I googled it and I found tthis picture it looks like the one i found. What should I do with her? Is she a queen??

I have investigated Japanese yellowjacket for 25 years. They are divided into some groups. Their hibernation habit is different by each group. The characteristics of “Paravespula group”is as follows. 1:They hibernate in the gap of dead tree which stands. 2: The vertical posture is common. 3: The horizontal posture is sometimes seen in the fallen tree, but, in that case, wasp lies face-down( on the stomach).
Vespula maculifrons in your photograph belongs to “Paravespula”. I think that Vespula maculifrons also has the same hibernation habit as Japanese “Paravespula”. I really want to confirm it. I have a wish to you. Could you teach me a detailed situation when you found this sleeping beautiful queen? Best regards.
