Family Cercopidae - Spittlebugs

Spittlebug nymphs protect themselves with a foamy mass, created by mixing waste fluid with air blown from their anus. Their "spittle" are commonly seen on weeds, where the adults also feed. These insects are quick to jump away when disturbed.
The genera Aphrophora and Clastoptera are often placed in their own family, Aphrophoridae and Clastopteridae, respectively.
