Biting Midges are blood-suckers as adults. Some are predators that imbibe the body fluids of small insects; a few draw the haemolymph of larger insects; still others have a taste for vertebrate blood. The latter are given such names as punkies or no-see-ums, since they are often able to attack people and livestock undetected.
