Titan Arum

The Titan Arum, Amorphophallus titanum, produces the tallest inflorescence in the world. This is also one of the stinkiest flowers; its rotting-meat stench attracts blow flies and other insects associated with carrion. This specimen was put on display in the Edmund C. Bovey greenhouse at the University of Guelph, as part of a United Way fund-raising campaign. It was apparently pollinated by a stray blow fly before fully opening.
