Sphecodina abbottii - Abbott's Sphinx

Dark phase, "horn" detail. Collected Mid June as second instar caterpillar from grape in Medfield MA along Causeway Rd. One of the most stunning sphinx caterpillars. Notice the snake scale pattern surrounding the eye.
