Papilio troilus (Spicebush Swallowtail)

Wompatuck SP

Collected in Wompatuck S.P. Hingham MA on 10/5/2008. Spicebush caterpillars turn gold in the fall as they ready to pupate. These two are from two seperate leaf shelters on the same Sassafras plant; I could not resist getting them both in the same frame.

Your work is stunning! Thank you so much for this website. You've helped me identify 2 caterpillars I had never seen before. The beauty of nature at its best.

This is an incredible photo!!! I just found the gold one yesterday in a state park while walking my dogs and I was so impressed with it's vibrant colors. I took several pictures and actually will frame them since I think they are beautiful. I had never seen this before and this species has now caught my attention!!!
