Sept. 11, 2004 - Stubborn

Ann Arbor, Mich.

Every so often when you take Zoey, our Westie, for a walk, she just plops down
and refuses to move. Yesterday, I took her for a walk and when we got home,
she just plopped down on the driveway and that was that. Zoey definitely has a
mind of her own - she is the most stubborn dog I have every come across.

*grin* yeah, westies are terriers all right - not cute little lapdogs! Great photo and
love the stubborn pose. Our pooch will sometimes plop down for a rest if we pause to
look at a view or something, but he always gets up again when we are ready to move on -
he has never sat down and refused to move like that! Maybe she wants to work on her sun tan?

So how long do you wait before you give in and pick her up?

I think you need to meet my border collie, Airlie. She's very smart and has a whole range of commnands that she can execute in an instant, but unless there's something she really wants (read sheep, food, or cats, in that order), she will often look at me with a clear "What's in it for me?" look. It takes either a second command or a staring contest before she'll relent and do it. A friend once said that the dog just refuses to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

I love the Zoey story. Reminds me of my dog and she DOES have a mind of her own :)
