June 3, 2004 - Windmill

Brighton, Mich.

I took this photo of a windmill this afternoon near my house and started playing with it in Photoshop,
taking curves to an extreme. Here's what the original looked like.

It does have a neat surreal look. At first I thought you had pasted the foreground on the sky. When I saw the original, I could see it was just the hard edge of the masking that made it look like a composite. Good color choice.

You turned it into something dramatic. Reminds me of solarization, which is reversal of colors, so maybe you accomplished the same thing with the curves.

Makes it really fun, the work you did on this!! Kind of surreal!!

I love the clouds and windmill. I wasn't sure how I felt about the colors until I looked at the original. I was a nice photo, but nothing really popped out at you. I need to find a Photoshop class somewhere. This is inspiring.

I find it strange in curves how there is a single point where a picture stops looking real, without being able to define why. Somewhere black becomes white. I thought it was a fish from the thumbnail. I do like this, though I am unsure about the bush.
