Nov. 15, 2008 - Self Portrait

One of the assignments for the studio portrait I am taking was to take a low-key portrait shot.
Lacking a handy model, I used myself.

This was lit using a single Alien Bee B00 monolight with softbox as the key light and a Promaster 7500 DX
flashgun sitting on the laptop keyboard in slave mode to help light my face, without blowing out the white
on the computer with the main light.

Canon EOS 40D ,Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
1/250s f/14.0 at 50.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

An interesting shot, though I wouldn't categorize this as "Low Key". Low key would have a more pinpointed light on the subject (you/face) and steeply tapered off. If you shot this in RAW (CR2) format, you might be able to get there by lowering the exposure a stop or possibly more and push your black level, though the arms might pose a problem (they'd appear disconnected as your black shirt disappears into the black).
