Our first night in Trinidad we spent at the Holiday Inn Express, then waited at the airport most of the next day for Gail, whose flights were delayed. Finally, our driver, Nicholas, took us on to Mt Plaisir Estate Hotel in Grande Riviere where we had a late supper and took a guided tour on the beach to see Leatherback turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs.

Our dinner was served under a covered porch outside with low light to avoid disturbing the turtles on the beach just beyond where we were seated.

Most of the other guests had already eaten by the time we arrived.

The light still managed to attract these newly hatched Leatherback turtles that were collected by the hotel staff and later taken to the beach to be released into the Atlantic Ocean.
