OOS So TX 2014-15 trip, Day 5

Wednesday, Dec 31, 2014. We started the day at Santa Ana NWR. It was raining so hard, three of us did not carry our cameras. Then birds appeared near the visitor center, so we retrieved our cameras and took a few photos. Later we went to the Old Hidalgo Pumphouse and the Weslaco Cemetery, but weather was still not friendly for photographers.
Using her pocket camera, Mary caught a few candid shots of our wet and muddy crew at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge: Jimmy, Gail, John, Joyce, Pete, Nadine, Kristin, Doug, Steve, Ben.

The shoes say it all.

Back at the visitor center, the Altamira Orioles were coming to the feeders, so I went to the car for the big camera.

Out on the dike, the group spotted a Gray Hawk. With Ben's help pointing it out, I got a few good photos.

At the end of the day, we went back to the Weslaco Cemetery to look for the Zone-tailed Hawk. It flew by too fast to get a photo, but we did find a Peregrine Falcon posing for us on the Weslaco water tower.
