Lesser Black-backed Gull among Ring-billed Gulls and a Herring Gull at Hobie Point, Lake Hefner
WD: The dark-backed gull in the center is a Lesser Black-backed Gull. The back is actually a dark gray color, quite a bit lighter than the black primaries. Here in the US we have the far western European subspecies, graellsii, which is lighter than the subspecies from farther east in northern
Europe. Notice how much richer the yellow color is on the bill compared to the RBG's. The red spot is clean, no smudge. The bill has practically no gonydeal angle, i.e. it is parallel-sided. The eye is yellow like the RBG in front, and the legs are also yellow like the RBG.
