One path of the SPIB&NC boardwalk leads to the Laguna Madre Nature Walk and the SPI Convention Center. As we left the boardwalk and started up the concrete walk to the Convention Center, Mary noticed this bird. Bill Diffin gave us this assessment: a juvenile or female Indigo Bunting, note the blue at the base of the tail and bluishness around the neck. The strong pattern on the tertials eliminates some close relatives like the Varied Bunting and Blue Bunting. Blue Grosbeak would have a larger bill.
