Frost Flower 2014

Ann Hart gave us a 'frost flower plant' before she and Ed moved to CA. She had shown us pictures from a plant she had, but we had not gotten a picture of the 'frost' till now. This gallery includes pictures of the plant from Spring till first freeze in 2014. Looking up photos online, this looks like a "White Crownbeard" Verbesina virginica.
We had planted this gift from Ann Hart the previous Fall and were pleased to see it come up again in May 2014.

Insects on the frost flower plant. We were surprised at how tall the plant grew--over 3 feet--and the interesting flowers. (September 2014)

Here's the 'pecan tree bed' in which we planted the frost flower--it's the tall plant in back, to the left of the security sign.

On the night of Nov 11-12, we had our first hard freeze and I got up early (for me) and went out to check the plant. Sure enough, frozen liquid had burst through the base of the plant.

The weather stayed cold all day, so I went out again this morning (Nov 13) and found even more frost had extruded from the base of the plant.
