It rained much of the night and the view from the deck showed there were clouds in the cloud forest.

After our 5:30 breakfast, we started birding from the deck. Several of the birds, like this male White-necked Jacobin, liked these orange flowers.

We came upon this big pen at the side of the road. It was sponsored by the Parrot Park Foundation...

...and the Jocotoco Foundation that owns the reserve.

It was housing several Red-Masked Parakeets we learned later had been rescued from a hotel (we think--our memories are cloudy here) after a hurricane and were being rehabilitated for possible release.

Because we were scheduled to leave for Guayaquil in the afternoon, we did not visit the lek at the prime time. Four birds had been seen later in the day yesterday, but we saw only this one male.

Back at the van, this female Green Thorntail was hovering around a floral decal on the back of the van.

Back at the lodge, we were having lunch when this Yellow-rumped Cacique came to a feeder hanging at the edge of the deck.

We rode the van back to the Wyndham Hotel in Guayaquil and had a final big meal together to celebrate the trip.
