Conch shells were so plentiful they were used to make borders for properties.

We got out so early the hotel did not have coffee, so we stopped at this little coffee and muffin shop for those who couldn't go on without caffeine.

Right across the sandy street from the coffee shop was a bougainvillea bush with this male Hooded Oriole.

Nearby the oriole was one of our target birds for the day, the Black Catbird, in the shadows.

On the mainland, there were many speed bumps to slow down drivers
On Caye Caulker, they laid large braided ropes across the roads
for speed bumps for the gas-powered golf carts that were the
primary mode of transportation, besides bike and foot.

Another birding group had seen the Rufous-necked Wood-Rail on their morning walk, but we missed it.
So it was a target bird for our afternoon walk. Mary had just reminded me to be looking down for it, since I had been looking for birds in the trees. Then I stepped closer to the water's edge and there it was.
