This Male Scarlet-rumped Tanager was among many we saw on the grounds at Villa Lapas.

We walked across the bridge over the stream behind the outdoor dining area and found this female Royal Flycatcher near a nest hanging over the creek bed.

There was a variety of birds in the courtyard and chapel area across the bridge, including this Yellow-throated Euphonia.

The Buff-throated Saltator would not turn around to show us its pinkish throat patch.

The Rufous-tailed Jacamar stayed well up into the trees above the courtyard.

This Gray-capped Flycatcher was sitting next to a Great Kiskadee nest.

Then, it swooped over, stole a piece of fluff out of the nest and flew with it to its own nest across the courtyard.

The Scaly-breasted Hummingbird also kept its distance, up in the trees overlooking the courtyard.

The Black-headed Trogon kept watch as we left the area to go to breakfast.

After breakfast, we loaded onto our bus and saw this Blue-black Grosbeak along the road as we were leaving Villa Lapas.

This Merlin was sitting in a tree above several Double-striped Thick-Knees and was harassed periodically by woodpeckers and other birds, but stayed on his perch.

Two motmots and a flycatcher in the same tree

Gray Hawk was the last bird we recorded along Calle La Barca.

We returned to Carara National Park, where we spotted this Turquoise-browed Motmot with a missing racket.

Near the end of our walk back out of the park, Erick spotted this Band-tailed Barbthroat hummingbird that showed off its tail feathers for us.

As we were assembling in the parking lot, a Laughing Falcon flew into the trees above us.

We walked across the bridge outside the dining area and went across the creek, where we saw this Gartered Trogon.

The Piratic Flycatcher flew to its nest on this thorny-looking tree.

We got a closer view of the Gartered Trogon as we were leaving the area.

Looking down to the creek bed from the bridge, we saw this Great Kiskadee that seemed to be looking for insects among the stones there.
