2023 Costa Rica Trip, Day 7

We birded around Villa Lapas before breakfast, then went to Carara National Park and La Barca Road around the entrance to Cerro Lodge later in the morning. After lunch, we went back to Parque Nacional Carara for a few hours, then returned to Villa Lapas for a little more birding there.
This Male Scarlet-rumped Tanager was among many we saw on the grounds at Villa Lapas.

We walked across the bridge over the stream behind the outdoor dining area and found this female Royal Flycatcher near a nest hanging over the creek bed.

There was a variety of birds in the courtyard and chapel area across the bridge, including this Yellow-throated Euphonia.

This Gray-capped Flycatcher was sitting next to a Great Kiskadee nest.

Then, it swooped over, stole a piece of fluff out of the nest and flew with it to its own nest across the courtyard.

The Scaly-breasted Hummingbird also kept its distance, up in the trees overlooking the courtyard.
