Hyder is a unique village, perhaps characterized best by the name of its only campground...Camp Run-A-Muck. It is the best place to see grizzlies (and black bears) when the salmon are running, and the nearby scenery is some of the most spectacular to be found anywhere. Thirty miles up the (unpaved) road, where the trail ends, I have never felt so remote.
