Hike on 7/25/2009 with Daryl to rim of Mt. St. Helens volcano/mountain. We tried to get the peak but it was too windy and unsafe. Most people don't make it to the peak anyway. Got there on 7/24 to camp at Hiker's Bivouac early afternoon so we hiked the first 2 miles of the hike (up to boulder area) - so we did 4 miles on Friday. Didn't get much sleep as boy scouts screaming and playing till 10PM, then boisterous idiots playing acoustic guitar and harmonica till almost 11PM.
Great hike! Actually easier than I though - didn't need gaiters or gloves.

A peek at the mountain on Friday, before we drove in and set up camp
We started at 4AM, and made it to the boulder field at 5AM.

I'm enjoying the view
That in the upper right hand is the real summit
Same shot, film camera
look near middle of picture for white line below rountain tops - that's an airplane inside the crater dome!
What's left from where one whole side blew off
rather barren landscape! (film camera)
We tried for the summit
we gave up as it was way too windy with blown ash in eyes and dangerous footing
